The Diamond eggplant is an extremely rare eggplant variety hailing from the Republic of the Ukraine. This lovely Ukranian eggplant, though very rare in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, is actually a very popular eggplant variety in Russia and the Ukraine. Seed for the Diamond Eggplant was introduced to the United States in 1993 and was collected by the Seed Savers Exchange who offered this wonderful eggplant variety to the American public.
Diamond is an exceptional and prolific producer of mild flavored, dark purple colored eggplants. Each eggplant is very slender in shape and is approximately 2 inches in diameter and 6 to 9 inches in length. The egglants are produced in clusters of 4 to 6 fruit and possess a firm flesh with a superb, old fashioned eggplant flavor and are never bitter.
Diamond is the best eggplant that we can recommend to gardeners in cooler climates with shorter growing seasons.
